What’s A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Indicator)? What Does it do? Doggone the doggone, they are a pain in the keister. These GFCI thingies create a lot of trouble. I asked my electrician to remove them but he said no, he won’t do it. He told me they are a safety device. They trip because they sense a potential safety issue. He explained in layman’s terms that a circuit when used sends current out on the hot line and the neutral line returns the current. The GFCI (ground fault circuit indicator) is a sensing device. It measures outgoing and incoming. If there is a slight difference, the GFCI will open the circuit thereby disabling further use of the device until the problem is located and corrected. He informed me that the tripping is a safety function that will protect the users. OK leave them in but please find the current leak, make the repair and reset the device. Thank You!
